Principal Research Scientist

As a Principal Research Scientist and Fonterra's subject matter expert in vitamin and micronutrient analysis, Brendon Gill has led the research and development of numerous methods designed to solve current and exigent analytical issues in infant formula analysis. Brendon has also been instrumental in undertaking primary research to further our understanding in the field of dairy science.

As an globally recognised expert, he is the current chair of the Official Methods Board of AOAC International, an international standards body which develops reference standards in food safety and product integrity. He has developed over two dozen new analytical methods that are used every day to analyse micronutrients in milk, infant formula, and other nutritional products to demonstrate product compliance to manufacturing specifications and to international regulations. Many of his methods are used in laboratories around the world, and four of these have been adopted as international reference methods and are specified for use by national regulations and international standards.

He has won several national and international awards for his work, most recently the 2023 Easterfield Medal from the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry. Brendon received a BSc, MSc(hons), and PhD in chemistry from the University of Waikato and is a fellow of AOAC International and of the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry. He is the author of over 50 scientific publications related to micronutrient and dairy analysis and regularly presents his work in international forums on these subjects.
